Partner Family Announcement

Habitat for Humanity Vermilion Adopt-a-Home Chair, Bryce Ashlin-Mayo, is thrilled to announce that the partner family for Vermilion’s spring build has been approved. “We are just waiting now to notify the other families that applied before we announce the family’s name.” The name of the family will be made public at a Press Conference being held on Oct. 26 at 5:30 at the building site, 4720 -55 Avenue in Vermilion. “This will be a short get-together,” says Ashlin-Mayo, “but all our many volunteers and donors are welcome to be there, as well as the members of the press.” The family will be in attendance as well.
The Vermilion build was postponed to the spring of 2011 after the hail storm and flooding made it impractical to build this year. As well, continued efforts to raise funds will ensure that the money needed to get a quick start in the spring will be available. “With a spring build, we will have more time to get those final funds in place. We would still like to raise about $30,000 to ensure our start in the spring. This would also help us with securing a site for our second build, something we are already considering,” says Ashlin-Mayo. "Now that we have a specific partner family, we are even more motivated to help this and future families in Vermilion have a safe and decent place to live."
Barry Gordey, Construction Chair, says that the postponement of the build has necessitated that all the bids be re-tendered, in order to reflect prices for the new year. “Obviously, prices will have gone up, and we need this to be reflected in the funds we have available for the build,” commented Gordey.
