Building Homes...Building Hope

Habitat for Humanity Vermilion is a Project Committee of the Lloydminster Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization.
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses are then sold with no interest charged.
Our goal is to provide families in need a "hand-up" not a "hand-out".

DECEMBER 23, 2014

What a tremendous future a community can expect when young people such as Riley Krips and Avery Corbiere, Grade 2 students at St. Jerome's Catholic School, take it upon themselves to raise funds for the less fortunate.

Students at St. Jerome's have been raising money for the Habitat Vermilion project, and the young ladies represent the class which raised the impressive amount of $825 in donations.

Last year, some tiny cardboard houses were distributed for students to use while collecting funds, and they certainly put them to good use. It is rewarding to know that when such actions take place, an entire community benefits.

Thank you Riley and Avery, and thank you to the students at St. Jerome's Catholic School. 'Tis the season of Hope.

Legacy Building Contractors, and a team of volunteers are almost finished with the floor installation.

Congratulations, team. We are following your progress in detail and we marvel at the progress.

Superbuild #2 at 4717-48 B Avenue, Vermilion forges ahead, with lots of great help. Thank you.

Thank you, Volunteers! In a spirit of selfless dedication four volunteers have joined Legacy Builders and the Vermilion Habitat project new build at 4717-48 B Avenue.

Our brave helpers are: Ann Lockwood, Clint McCullough, Wayne Nelson and Mic Jacejko. For the next few days they will be installing the floor system.  Thank you!! And a merry Christmas to you too.

Today we saw the moisture damp application at the Build #2 site, 4717-48 B Avenue, Vermilion.

Moisture damp, for those who may not know, is the barrier applied to the outside of the block, to separate the earth from the block so that moisture does not get into the walls.

Got your ICFs?

The Habitat Vermilion project at 4717 - 48 B Avenue does.

You may remember that we cut the ribbon for our second build—a 1,000 square foot detached home on November 12.

Today, your Habitat Vermilion Committee is pleased to report that the basement walls are up, and that the ICFs —insulated concrete forms—will be filled with concrete as soon as we have milder weather.

Kudos to Legacy Building Contractors for doing a remarkable job.

By this time next year we may be decorating the front of the building with Christmas lights.

Is this something to look forward to? You bet.

At the Habitat build on 48 B avenue, the basement has been dug -- a remarkable job by Jim Davies of JKD Excavating Ltd.
The footings were done today and covered over.
Legacy Building Contractors Inc. will build the basement floors, walls and roof.

NOVEMBER 18, 2014

Early this morning, Habitat Vermilion received a message from Candice Traber, Manager at Lakeland Funeral Home.

It is such an thoughtful, encouraging message that we decided to share it with you:

"I'm so happy to see such an amazing organization at work here in Vermilion. Thank you to the board, volunteers and those who donate time and money to such a worth while cause. I'm ecstatic to see the care and compassion that is pouring back into our community. As such, this is an organization that I'd like to show my support towards. If there is an option to join your committee, or even an opportunity to volunteer in any fashion, I'd like to put my name forward. Also, my fiancé is an electrician so if there's assistance needed in that department, I'm sure it could be arranged. Thank you for your time and I wish you the best of luck in these endeavours."
